Entry Twelve: John Steinbeck

September 1939.

Dear Diary
Every since i've John Steinbeck "Grape of Wrath". I really loved it because it was extremely good, because it talks about the Great Depression. About a family who is living in Oklahoma and they are loosing everything. with the farms and they are trying to make a living. but for them its extremely hard. i loved this because lots and lost of people could relate to this novel. Because it shows the struggle and the passion that the characters had to survive in the hard times.

Entry Eleven: Woody Guthrie

June 1938.

Dear Diary,

Every since i've heard Woody Guthrie I feel like he knows what we have been going threw. Every since we lost everything. Lots of people from the plains have been telling me that what he sings is exactly what they have been going through. It's nice to have someone explain what we have to go though and how hard life is. Because my dad finally came back home, we was located in the plains for a long while and he explain how bad the dust storms was there. That it felt that they weren't able to breathe many little child would die because they weren't able to breathe. He even said that it was extremely dry and it was really really black when the dust hit the sky.

Entry Ten: Father Charles Coughlin and Huey Long Criticize Roosevelt

February 1937.
Dear Diary,

It's been upsetting that people have been criticizing him and it's sad that people who have followed him are now being so mean to him. Examples like Father Charles Coughlin who was a priest that followed Roosevelt and then didn't feel like he was doing so much to help. So then he used his radio show to talk bad about Roosevelt. But then Father Charles Coughlin was also talking bad also about jewish people so then the higher priest shut down the radio show. Other example. Huey Long also didn't like Roosevelt but then he would make it known so people could go against Roosevelt but by talking bad about Roosevelt, Huey Long made lots of enemies so one day he got shot and died.  It's sad that all those people who went against Roosevelt who was trying to get rid of him were the one who were putting themselves into danger.

Entry Nine: Alf Landon- Governor Of Kansas Runs Against Roosevelt

November 1936,

Dear Diary,
It was really shocking when I heard someone was trying to run against Roosevelt. Then it was Alf Landon from Kansas he tried to  run for president because he made it clear to the public that he does like the New Deal. Plus he like the Ex-President Hoover, but I didn't like the that because Roosevelt has been helping us. I feel that his been trying to put an effort into this. I can't believe someone is really trying to run aganist him.

Entry Eight: WPA, Dorothea Lange, Public Art, schools and roads and bridges

May 1934,

Dear Diary,
There has been lots of pictures coming from the great plains a lady called Dorothea Lange has been taking them and showing it to people all over The United States of America. Because they've been showing how terrible it over their in how people are barley living. Many people are showing the public art, going out taking pictures of how bad the Great Depression is hitting people in different ways. We haven't been getting letters from my dad for 3 weeks already, I'm scared that his living like that what if his the one in the pictures. I've been seeing more and more schools being built around our area, lots and lots of roads are being built as well. President Roosevelt programs made one of the most beautiful bridges in the world named The Golden Gate bridge, in the last letters dad sent us he told us that he saw when they were building it. We've only seen pictures I cant wait to be able to go to California and drive across The Golden Gate bridge.

Entry Seven: Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, New Deal and Fireside chats

March 1933,

Dear Diary,
Everyone has been happy that President Hoover has became our Ex-president. Now my dad wrote us a letter telling us that he had voted for Franklin D. Roosevelt. The president and his wife Eleanor have been visiting lots of the working class. I can't believe that my dad got to met Franklin and Eleanor. Everyone has been talking about the New Deal, which is suppose to give lots of jobs and secure the money in the bank. Our President seems to secure and helpful I'm ready to see what he can do to help us. Eleanor is the eyes and ears of Franklin since he has trouble of walking since he had polio. But you could tell that she loves him it's so romantic. I'm hoping my dad could get some work from the new deal since it could help him come home fast. Plus with the new deal it could also give benefits to many other people. I also hope that people support President Roosevelt, because I feel that his going to try to help us.

Entry Six: Reconstruction Finance Corporation, Emergency Relief Act and tickle down economics

October 1932,

Dear Diary,
The only thing people been talking about is how the Bonus Army went to Washington, President Hoover has been trying to do something to help this depression. He started many of those branches to he started the Tickle down economic but my mom said it's not going to work just because the government want to loan the banks but none of the banks didn't have money to pay the loans or they didn't want to give out loans. My mom went and tried to take out a loan but the just told her no. They only thing is that they only want to give money to the big business. They wanted to start the Emergency Relief Act which only gave some what of men jobs but not all of them who need them. But thank god my dad got one of those jobs. But let's see if he can keep it, or if he can come home soon.
